More Than Meets The Eye

Well I saw Transformers the other day. I have to say it was awesome. I had a blast. I went into the theatre with low expectations and came out impressed. This is what a summer film is supposed to be, lots of cool imagery, some jokes thrown in, gigantic robots causing chaos, and just thoroughly entertaining. I know the film has been bashed by a lot of fanboys, but that's just cause they were wanting it to be something it's not. They wanted the movie to be a grown-up version of the cartoon and it's not. Which is fine with me. This film isn't trying to make cinematic history here. If you want a great plot with plenty of character development and a deep, sociological message than stay at home and rent Citizen Kane.

As far as staying true to the original cartoon, well it wasn't 100% accurate, no movie based on a comic or cartoon ever is, but it wasn't that far off either. If you are a fan of the cartoon than you're going to recognize the characters and most of them do act like they did in the cartoon. Casting the original voice of Optimus Prime was essential and really did a lot to remind you of the original. ILM did a sensational job with the effects. You're not going to sit there and think the robots are obviously not real, they did a good job of making it seem like they were really there and interacting with the people and environments. Like I said, it's a fun movie. If you go in there ready to criticize every last detail then you're gonna have a bad time. The bottom line is that if you wanna have fun then you're gonna have fun. So go see it. I'm definitely gonna see it again.

The AWACS airplane in the film was one of our actual jets, filmed last year with actual crew and maintenance guys in the background(stationed here who work in the same wing as I do;, of course the actors were closer to the camera for obvious reasons
